SISKIYOU COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — NOVEMBER 6, 2026. Voters in Mount Shasta Union Elementary School District are considering Measure J, a $9.1 million school-facilities bond. In Siskiyou County’s November 3 second election-night report, Yes had 1,445 votes (68.19%) and No 674 (31.81%), a 771-vote Yes lead. The reported support is above the 55% threshold for this school bond but remains uncertified.
What the election concerns
The ballot description identifies school-facility improvements including roofs, plumbing, electrical systems, heating, ventilation and emergency systems. Issuing bonds is borrowing that must be repaid; the $9.1 million principal should not be described as cash already in the district’s accounts. The precise property-tax projections, independent audits, citizen oversight and permitted uses are governed by the official ballot wording and relevant laws.
Other elections and the geographic boundary
This school district election is not the same as Mount Shasta’s citywide Measure H sales-tax question. The school bond has 2,119 counted valid Yes/No selections; the city tax has 879. These electorates are not identical and the difference is not evidence of missing city ballots. The city council vote is also a third, separate election.
Why the result matters locally
Improving school roofs, utilities and emergency systems can have long-term consequences for students and staff, but the election result cannot by itself assess the condition of every building or guarantee any particular project receives funds. Those decisions depend on district capital planning, bond terms and public oversight after legally valid approval.
When to expect official results
The Siskiyou News analysis published November 4 reports the county’s second election-night results update at approximately 11:11 p.m. November 3, including 11,250 ballots reported out of 27,706 registered voters and 62 of 62 precincts. That does not mean all lawful mail, provisional or other ballots have been counted. The Siskiyou County Elections Office is the official source for subsequent canvass figures. California counties finish their legal canvass before statewide certification in December. This story does not claim a new numerical county update on November 6.
