SISKIYOU COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — NOVEMBER 6, 2026. Mount Shasta’s Measure H, a city ballot question proposing a one-percentage-point local sales tax, had 581 Yes votes (66.10%) against 298 No (33.90%) in Siskiyou’s November 3 election-night second update. The early Yes lead is 283 votes out of 879 valid selections. It is an unofficial count, not a certified ordinance.
What the election concerns
The proposed local levy would generate an estimated $1.5 million annually for general city services, with campaign descriptions identifying public safety, wildfire protection, emergency response and other municipal needs. The projected revenue is not a guarantee of future receipts and should not be presented as funds already available for fire or police budgets. A sales tax applies to taxable transactions under applicable exemptions, not all household incomes.
Other elections and the geographic boundary
Mount Shasta voters also faced a local City Council contest. In our existing council report, the competition at a council-seat cutoff was separated by just three votes at the source’s time. A separate school district Measure J concerns borrowing for campus repairs; it has a different threshold and electoral geography. Read the new school-bond article.
Why the result matters locally
The city sits in a region where wildfire preparedness, emergency response and seasonal tourism are central public-policy concerns. However, a ballot-measure count cannot demonstrate why each voter supported or opposed an increase. The City Council would still make actual expenditure decisions under applicable financial rules.
When to expect official results
The Siskiyou News analysis published November 4 reports the county’s second election-night results update at approximately 11:11 p.m. November 3, including 11,250 ballots reported out of 27,706 registered voters and 62 of 62 precincts. That does not mean all lawful mail, provisional or other ballots have been counted. The Siskiyou County Elections Office is the official source for subsequent canvass figures. California counties finish their legal canvass before statewide certification in December. This story does not claim a new numerical county update on November 6.
