MOUNT SHASTA, Siskiyou County — With winter approaching, residents should know which agency handles city street conditions, snow removal and municipal infrastructure problems.
Mount Shasta’s Public Works Department identifies its responsibilities as street maintenance, snow removal, storm drainage, city buildings and grounds, water distribution, wastewater collection and the municipal wastewater treatment plant.
City services are not every road in the region
The department’s city responsibilities do not mean it maintains every highway and forest road near Mount Shasta. State highways are generally maintained through Caltrans, while county and federal roads have their own agencies. Residents reporting a hazard should identify the exact road segment before assuming which department is responsible.
How to make a request
The city’s Public Works site provides a Request for Service process. Residents can describe drainage, damaged public assets or street-maintenance problems and give a reliable location. A submitted request is not proof that a repair has been scheduled or completed.
For immediate emergencies or life-threatening conditions, use emergency channels rather than waiting for a routine municipal response. A regular public works service page is not a live winter-storm alert.
